Se subastó el diario manuscrito de Saint-Exupéry.

Manuscrito del episodio que inspiró El Principito.
Escrito poco después de que se estrellara en la costa Libia, a finales de 1935, un manuscrito de 57 páginas del escritor, periodista y piloto francés, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, fue subastado el miércoles pasado en París al precio inicial de 300 mil euros. Aquel accidente, en medio del desierto, tuvo un valor incalculable para él, quien pudo escribir las anotaciones que sirvieron para su libro “Au centre du désert” (“En medio del desierto”), como base de un capítulo central de “Tierra de hombres, editado en 1939, y en 1943, “Le Petit Prince” (“El Principito”), un año antes de su desaparición, mientras volaba. Tras esperar unos días cerca del avión siniestrado, tanto él como su mecánico caminaron por el desierto tres días y cuatro noches, achacados por el hambre, la sed, el calor y las alucinaciones, hasta que, a mil millas de toda tierra habitada, encontraron a un beduino que les dio de beber y les salvó.

El manuscrito, que tiene varias anotaciones y tachaduras, es hasta ahora la versión más completa de su supervivencia. La epopeya del autor fue escrita en un momento muy particular para él. Ya era un aviador célebre de la mítica Aéropostale, el servicio postal por avión, y un escritor y reportero reconocido. Pero aún no era el humanista universal del “El Principito”, ni el combativo de las “Notas en el Frente de Madrid”. La ironía de haber salvado tanto su vida como la de su mecánico sólo gracias a unas “piedras negras y redondas, que rodaron libremente sobre la arena y formaron una bandeja de cojinetes”, abren la novela corta. Sin reservas de agua, a causa del accidente, los dos hombres –él y su mecánico– sólo logran recuperar medio litro de café, un cuarto de litro de vino blanco, algunas uvas y media naranja. “Agua –escribe escribe Saint-Exupéry–, no tienes gusto, ni color, ni aroma. No se te puede definir, te catamos sin conocerte. No eres necesaria a la vida; eres la vida”.

Un año antes de saltar a la fama, el padre de “El Principito” se encuentra con el fotógrafo Alfonso Sánchez Portela. Alfonsito es uno de los grandes reporteros del siglo XX, en Cabo Juby (Marruecos), e inmortaliza el encuentro con el escritor en dos fotografías inéditas de Exupery. Éste ya había escrito “El Aviador”, y, en 1929, Andrè Gide prologaba su “Vuelo Nocturno”. Las tormentas del desierto y las revueltas en Ifni obligan a Alfonso a contratar un segundo avión para poder rescatarle en caso de accidente. “Mi peor recuerdo fue la tempestad en el desierto, donde el avión parecía una hoja de árbol mecida por el viento”, afirma Alfonso, quien agradece vivamente la ayuda de aquel “caballero del aire”.

Además del manuscrito, también se ponen a la venta tres ejemplares de las novelas “Correo del Sur”, “Tierra de hombres” y “Piloto de guerra”, todas ellos dedicados por el autor, así como un seguro a su nombre y unas caricaturas que hizo en Montreal. Completan la muestra otros recuerdos del creador de “El Principito” que no estaban en venta, como unos guantes, una chaqueta de piloto o el brazalete que encontró un pescador en Marsella en 1998. La venta del manuscrito servirá para proporcionar los primeros fondos a la futura Fundación Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, que pretende actuar en favor de la infancia y los niños emigrantes.
